Travel Itinerary
Day 1: - Guwahati to Dirang via Sessa Orchid Sanctuary & Tippi Orchid Park
Your journey begins from Guwahati, where you will start an early morning drive towards Dirang. As the city slowly fades behind, the road leads through Assam’s countryside with tea gardens, rivers, and small villages creating a peaceful start to your Himalayan journey.
After crossing Bhalukpong and entering Arunachal Pradesh, the scenery begins to change into lush forests and winding mountain roads. En route, visit Sessa Orchid Sanctuary, home to rare wild orchid species growing naturally inside forested landscapes. Continue to Tippi Orchid Park beside the Kameng River, where an impressive orchidarium showcases exotic Himalayan orchid varieties.
The drive continues through scenic mountain valleys and pine forests before reaching Dirang in the evening. Dirang is a quiet Himalayan town surrounded by apple orchards and rivers. Check in to your hotel and relax in the cool mountain air. Overnight stay in Dirang.
Day 2 - Dirang Monastery – Transfer to Tawang via Sela Pass, Sela Lake & Jung Waterfall
After breakfast, begin your day with a visit to Dirang Monastery, a peaceful Buddhist monastery overlooking the valley. The quiet surroundings offer a glimpse into local Monpa culture before you begin the spectacular drive to Tawang.
The journey to Tawang is one of the most scenic Himalayan drives in Northeast India. As you climb higher into the mountains, the landscape becomes dramatic with snow-capped peaks and alpine vegetation. Stop at Sela Pass, located at over 13,000 feet, one of India’s highest motorable passes. Nearby Sela Lake appears frozen during winter and reflects blue skies during summer, offering unforgettable views.
Continue to Jung Waterfall, where water cascades down rocky cliffs amidst dense greenery, creating a perfect photography stop. Visit Jaswantgarh War Memorial, dedicated to a brave Indian soldier from the 1962 Indo-China war. By evening, reach Tawang and check in to your hotel. Overnight stay in Tawang.
Day 3 - Tawang Local Sightseeing & Bumla Pass – Madhuri Lake – PTso Lake
After an early breakfast, proceed for a high-altitude excursion to Bumla Pass near the India–China border. The drive passes through rugged mountain terrain with stunning views of snow peaks and valleys. A local vehicle is mandatory for this trip and costs ₹5,500 per vehicle, payable directly. The journey offers a rare opportunity to visit one of India’s historic border points.
On the return journey, visit Madhuri Lake, a beautiful high-altitude lake surrounded by mountains and made famous by a Bollywood film. Continue to PTso Lake, known for its calm blue waters and scenic landscape.
Later, explore Tawang town. Visit Tawang Monastery, the largest monastery in India, where prayer halls, murals, and prayer wheels reflect centuries of Buddhist heritage. Visit Urgelling Monastery, birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama, followed by Tawang War Memorial honoring Indian soldiers. In the evening, you may attend the Light & Sound Show at the memorial. Overnight stay in Tawang.
Day 4 - Tawang to Bomdila – Scenic Himalayan Drive
After breakfast, begin your return journey to Bomdila. The drive again passes through mountain passes, valleys, and forests, offering new perspectives of the Himalayan landscape.
Arrive in Bomdila, a peaceful hill town with beautiful views of the eastern Himalayas. Visit Bomdila Monastery, known for its colorful architecture and peaceful prayer halls. Explore local markets selling handicrafts and woollens before checking in to your hotel. Overnight stay in Bomdila.
Day 5 - Bomdila to Kaziranga – Tea Garden Landscapes
After breakfast, drive towards Kaziranga National Park. As you descend from the mountains, landscapes slowly change into Assam’s green plains dotted with tea gardens and rivers.
Arrive at Kaziranga and check in to your wildlife resort near the park. Spend the evening relaxing amidst nature. Optional cultural programs or tea garden visits may be arranged depending on availability. Overnight stay near Kaziranga.
Day 6 - Kaziranga Safari – Guwahati Departure
Begin your day early with a jeep safari inside Kaziranga National Park. The park is famous for the endangered one-horned rhinoceros and offers chances to spot wild elephants, swamp deer, wild buffalo, and diverse birdlife.
After breakfast, check out and drive back to Guwahati for airport or railway station drop, concluding your memorable Arunachal Pradesh and Kaziranga tour filled with mountains, monasteries, lakes, and wildlife.
