Travel Itinerary

Day 1 - Guwahati to Bhalukpong – Riverside Stay

Your journey begins from Guwahati, driving towards Bhalukpong at the foothills of Arunachal Pradesh. The route passes through scenic Assamese countryside dotted with tea gardens, forests, and rural villages.

On reaching Bhalukpong, check in to your hotel near the Kameng River. Spend the evening relaxing by the riverside, enjoying the peaceful environment and fresh mountain air. You may take a short walk in the nearby forest area or local market. Overnight stay in Bhalukpong.

Day 2 - Bhalukpong to Dirang via Sessa Orchid Sanctuary & Tippi Orchid Park

Your journey begins from Guwahati, where you will start an early morning drive towards Dirang. As the city slowly fades behind, the road leads through Assam’s countryside with tea gardens, rivers, and small villages creating a peaceful start to your Himalayan journey.

After crossing Bhalukpong and entering Arunachal Pradesh, the scenery begins to change into lush forests and winding mountain roads. En route, visit Sessa Orchid Sanctuary, home to rare wild orchid species growing naturally inside forested landscapes. Continue to Tippi Orchid Park beside the Kameng River, where an impressive orchidarium showcases exotic Himalayan orchid varieties.

The drive continues through scenic mountain valleys and pine forests before reaching Dirang in the evening. Dirang is a quiet Himalayan town surrounded by apple orchards and rivers. Check in to your hotel and relax in the cool mountain air. Overnight stay in Dirang.

Day 3 - Sangti Valley Excursion & Dirang Local Sightseeing

After breakfast, explore the beautiful Sangti Valley, known for wide open landscapes, traditional Monpa villages, flowing rivers, and seasonal migratory birds. Spend time enjoying peaceful scenery and photography.

Return to Dirang and visit Dirang Dzong, a historic fort-like settlement reflecting local architecture. Later visit hot water springs and local markets before returning to your hotel. Overnight stay in Dirang.

Day 4 - Dirang Monastery – Transfer to Tawang via Sela Pass, Sela Lake & Jung Waterfall

After breakfast, begin your day with a visit to Dirang Monastery, a peaceful Buddhist monastery overlooking the valley. The quiet surroundings offer a glimpse into local Monpa culture before you begin the spectacular drive to Tawang.

The journey to Tawang is one of the most scenic Himalayan drives in Northeast India. As you climb higher into the mountains, the landscape becomes dramatic with snow-capped peaks and alpine vegetation. Stop at Sela Pass, located at over 13,000 feet, one of India’s highest motorable passes. Nearby Sela Lake appears frozen during winter and reflects blue skies during summer, offering unforgettable views.

Continue to Jung Waterfall, where water cascades down rocky cliffs amidst dense greenery, creating a perfect photography stop. Visit Jaswantgarh War Memorial, dedicated to a brave Indian soldier from the 1962 Indo-China war. By evening, reach Tawang and check in to your hotel. Overnight stay in Tawang.

Day 5 - Bumla Pass – Madhuri Lake – PTso Lake Excursion

After an early breakfast, proceed for the high-altitude Bumla Pass excursion near the India–China border. A local vehicle is mandatory for this visit costing ₹5,500 per vehicle payable directly. The drive offers spectacular Himalayan scenery and snow landscapes depending on season.

On return, visit Madhuri Lake surrounded by mountains and PTso Lake known for its peaceful blue waters. Return to Tawang town and relax for overnight stay.

Day 6 - Tawang Local Sightseeing

After breakfast, explore Tawang town in detail. Visit Tawang Monastery, the largest monastery in India, where monks chant prayers and colorful murals depict Buddhist history. Continue to Urgelling Monastery, birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama, followed by Tawang War Memorial honoring Indian soldiers of the 1962 war.

Spend the evening exploring local markets or attending the Light & Sound Show at the memorial. Overnight stay in Tawang.

Day 7 - Tawang to Bomdila – Scenic Mountain Drive

After breakfast, begin your return journey to Bomdila. The drive again passes through mountain passes, valleys, and forests, offering new perspectives of the Himalayan landscape.

Arrive in Bomdila, a peaceful hill town with beautiful views of the eastern Himalayas. Visit Bomdila Monastery, known for its colorful architecture and peaceful prayer halls. Explore local markets selling handicrafts and woollens before checking in to your hotel. Overnight stay in Bomdila.

Day 8 - Bomdila to Guwahati Departure

After breakfast, begin your drive back to Guwahati. As you descend from the mountains, the scenery changes to green plains, tea gardens, and Assamese villages. Enjoy scenic breaks along the way.

On arrival in Guwahati, you will be dropped at the airport or railway station for your onward journey, concluding a memorable Tawang tour filled with mountain landscapes, monasteries, lakes, and unforgettable experiences.
